Yesterday was a magic day – at least for me and my Lumia 830. Why? After months of searching for updates probably four to five times per day I finally got the Denim “upgrade” for my phone. Main reason to get excited about it is of course the long-awaited Lumia Camera 5. In this article I will share my first impressions, which of course aren`t in depth by any mean .
Speed, speed and speed…
This is probably the most important part for me. The the previous camera apps (Nokia Camera or Lumia Camera Classic) suffered from a much too long loading time. Actually it felt like you`re waiting 3 to 5 seconds. I`ve never measured it but it probably gets near that mark. With Lumia Camera those times are gone. Now you really get that fast experience which I talked about here and in this video. It`s just a much better experience. Now you`re able to take a snapshot when you want to!
Front camera
I have to admit, this might be a pretty minor feature for most of us (including me). Still, sometimes it`s the small things that make you happy. Now we finally can quickly change to the front camera with one tap (instead of two). Previously we had to tap the three dots at the top and the chose “front camera”. Now there`s a separated UI element for that.
Prettier
Now we come to a part which is really subjective. So in my opinion the camera app got prettier with the elements not having those borders anymore . But as said you can build up you`re on opinion (just look at the pictures below)!
Unlock option?
Until now I only talked about things I like. But while my limited use time I also noticed something I don`t like. Again it`s a minor thing, but for me this was pretty useful. What am I talking about? When you open the Lumia Camera Classic (or Nokia Camera) from the lock screen there was a button to quickly unlock the device. Now with the Lumia Camera this little but useful button is gone… Or at least I can`t find him anymore. I simply don`t get it why Microsoft removed this Option… I actually used it quite often.
Conclusion
As said before those are all early impressions but so far I really like the Lumia Camera app. You might ask yourself why I didn`t talk about the actually image taking. But it`s just too early to say something about it. And apart from that: I mostly use my camera for some snapshot and not for more. That`s why I`m really excited about having a faster camera app…
Have you already gotten the update? And what are your impressions? I`d like to know about it! Just leave a comment… also if you`ve got feedback!
