Sometime ago I have published an article about my favorite Windows 10 features. Now I want to talk about my favorite Windows 10 Mobile features. Since Windows 10 Mobile is still in development, new features might be added soon. In this article I refer to all features which are included in Build 10512.
Some of my favorite features in Windows 10 Mobile are the same as in Windows 10 for desktop. I won’t talk too long about these features, but I will present new ones.
With Windows Phone 8.1 Microsoft has implemented an Action and Notification Center into its phone OS. With Windows 10 Mobile it is further developed. It gets many new features I really like.
Now there are not only 4 or 5 quick settings shown in the action center. With one swipe you can open the Action Center, with a second one more quick settings. They are also available with a press on “expand”.
Furthermore Microsoft has listened to users feedback. The users have wished for the possibility to delete each notification and not all (of an app) at once.
There is another feature relating to the Action Center I really like. When there is a longer notification, the Action Center often shows only the beginning of it. With Windows 10 Mobile you can see more content of the notification by pressing on the arrow next to the notification.
I’m so happy about the new settings menu! Finally, Microsoft has sorted the settings by categories. Now it won’t take much time to find a certain setting. The settings are sorted into ten categories. These are the same as in Windows 10. With that Microsoft follows its One Windows Strategy and one of the – in my opinion biggest – niggles is removed.
There are two more pleasant features. It is now possible to search through the settings after a keyword. This is helpful for all who use a Windows Phone for the first time but also for finding settings which aren’t used quite often.
Furthermore the settings can be used in the landscape mode as well. I think on bigger screens this feature will make the use of the settings sometimes much easier.
Gestures in the Outlook Mail App
For Windows 10, Microsoft has built a new Outlook Mail application. The app is an universal app so it works in the same way on PCs, tablets and phones. With the new Outlook Mail app there are some new gestures which could make you more productive.
With a swipe from the right you can delete a mail and with a swipe from the left you can mark a mail. In the settings of the app the user can decide what should happen in case of use of the gestures.
The new design, especially the new personalization options
With Windows 10 the OS gets even more personal. With Windows Phone 8.1 it was possible to set a picture as a background for the start screen. With Windows 10 Mobile this background gets more important. It is also shown behind the app list and in the task switcher. The design of the start screen can be very different from device to device. The user can not only decide whether there should be a background picture but also whether the picture should be only behind transparent tiles or on the hole screen.
Additionally, more colors can be set as accent color.
All in all Microsoft puts the user feedback for more personalization options into practice. It is good that the user feedback is taken seriously.
Now you know my favorite Windows 10 Mobile features.
