On Tuesday Microsoft has released a new Windows 10 Mobile Insider Build. In this article I want to summarize my first impressions. I have installed the build on my test-device, the Lumia 520. I used the device for the last days as my main device for getting a good experience of the new build.
First I want to talk about the new features added in this build. Microsoft has added the possibility to change the skin color of the emoji’s. In my opinion this is a good feature and it is nice to see that Windows 10 Mobile now has this possibility.
Furthermore Microsoft has worked on its Messaging app. The textbox is now expanding when you are typing a message with many lines. This makes it much easier to see what you were typing. I really like this new feature and it makes the typing of long messages much easier.
Now I want to talk about the speed and the performance of the new build. First of all I would recommend to everyone who uses this build to do a reset of the phone after upgrading to Windows 10 Mobile.
The speed and performance of the build is quite good. You can’t compare it to Windows Phone 8.1 but the OS is much faster than the last build and works well. There are no apps which are crashing anymore and the apps are starting faster than in previous builds. The battery life is also way better than in the last build. I can now use the phone all day long without charging. I don’t have the problem that Cortana uses a lot of my battery life.
Of course there are still some bugs left in this build but Windows 10 Mobile is on a good way in my opinion. Sometimes I can’t open the Notification Center and the downloads or updates of apps need a long time.
To summarize my impressions of this build I can say that this build is quite good and Microsoft is on a good way with Windows 10 Mobile. But they have to go on working and there is still some work to do.
