Microsoft has asked the Windows Insiders this morning whether they want to have a new build today. The answer was clear: Yes!
Microsoft has asked the Insiders because there is a problem with the build. If you want to use it you have to go back to Windows Phone 8.1 and only then you can install the new build. For all who doesn’t want to reset their phone you can just wait, a new build with the possibility to be installed on an older Windows 10 Mobile is on the way.
The build comes with some new nice features. You can now change the default search engine of your phone and the browser Microsoft Edge can now show suggestions based on your browsing history. Furthermore you can now send SMS from your PC by using Cortana. Also it is finally possible to store downloaded offline maps on the SD card of your phone.
Microsoft has fixed some bugs from the last builds. Here are some of them:
- They have made performance improvements to Acton Center, including swipe to expand and dismiss notifications. Swiping to expand or dismiss notifications should happen more quickly.
- The alarm icon now appears on the Lock screen when an alarm is set in the Alarms & Clock app.
- The proximity sensor during calls is now behaving as expected on devices that may have previously failed to turn the screen off.
- App downloads in the Store were sometimes getting blocked by a service hanging in the background – this should be resolved and app downloads should be more consistent.
Also they are still going on improving the speed, performance and battery life.
Nevertheless there are some bugs left like photos cannot be selected for sharing through third party apps like Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram Beta, WhatsApp etc. Microsoft has published an overview of all fixed bugs and new bugs here .
I will write an article about the new build with more details in the next days.
