Developer Lorenzo Farinelli (@fari_nelli) recently published a completely new and fresh-looking Windows 10 version of Time Sense. With the new app, Time Sense not only got new features and an improved design: The app is now also available in German (I’ve helped to translate). In this post we want to take a quick look at the very useful tool.
What is Time Sense?
Before we actually take a look at the new app I want to explain what Time Sense actually is and why it is so useful. Thanks to Time Sense you can find out how long you’re using your phone, how many times you unlock your device and where you unlock it. Therefore, Time Sense is very useful for everyone who wants to know exactly this. Usage times in particular are very interesting – not just if you want to know how long you are using your device but especially if you want to know how long your device’s battery lasts. When I state usage times in my reviews I always revert to times measured by Time Sense.
The Windows 10 App
The most interesting part about the new Time Sense app is probably that it is now – for the first time – available for Windows PCs and tablets as well. Lorenzo created a beautiful and clean looking app which works great on every Windows 10 device. When you launch the app for the first time a guide informs you about all the features of Time Sense.
By tapping on the well-known “hamburger menu” (you can also just swipe from left to right) you can access the different sections of the app, namely Home, Timeline, Report and Analysis. In the Home overview you can take a look at your usage time and number of unlocks. By clicking on the calendar icon on the app bar at the bottom you can access data of a specific day. Furthermore, there’s even an export function which creates an Excel file for you.
The timeline overview displays how many times you’ve unlocked your device, how long you’ve been using it at that specific time and whether you’ve turned on WiFi, Bluetooth and locating. Additionally, the app shows you the battery state at that time and whether the device’s battery was charging at that moment.
Under “report” you can compare your usage of your device over a specific time range, for instance a week. In addition, you get your maximum, minimum and average figures.
With analysis you can analyse your data even further. To get this function you will have to pay a small amount of money.
You can download Time Sense from the Windows Store (link) on your Windows 10 Mobile phone and Windows 10 device.
