In the last couple of days we heard many rumors on the future of the Microsoft Band and the Microsoft Health services.
The speculations about the fitness device started with an article on ZDNet written by Mary Jo Foley, who reported that a Microsoft Band 3 is not likely. Nevertheless, according to Foley, Microsoft Health is going to stay alive in the future. For me personally, this would not make a lot of sense because no OEMs are using this service for their wearables devices – at least at the moment.
With the Band, Microsoft tried to promote its Health service. Additionally, it showed what could actually be done with a fitness device like the Band and that it is possible to integrate a variety of sensors in such a small device. If Microsoft wants to continue with its Health service they need to continue building and selling Bands because otherwise there would be no one using Health. I am pretty sure that Microsoft does not need to make a decision whether they are going to announce a Band 3 but they have to make a decision on the future of Microsoft Health. If they have a good plan for the Health service, we will see a Band 3.
According to my sources, the Band 3 is basically ready to be presented but Microsoft still has to decide whether they will really announce it – so everything is still possible;)
I hope that we are going to see a third generation of the Band because in my opinion it is one of the coolest products by Microsoft at the moment. What are your thoughts on the device? Tell us in the comments!
