Microsoft is reorganizing its sales team in Redmond and also local teams worldwide. As part of this reorganization, the company will lay off up to 3000 employees. Most of them are part of the sales team and work outside the US. At the moment, 121 000 people around the world are working for Microsoft including 50000 outside the US. The restructuring sharpens the sales team’s focus on the cloud with a new Enterprise Operating Unit.
“Microsoft is implementing changes to better serve our customers and partners,” a Microsoft spokesperson told in a statement. “Today, we are taking steps to notify some employees that their jobs are under consideration or that their positions will be eliminated. Like all companies, we evaluate our business on a regular basis. This can result in increased investment in some places and, from time-to-time, re-deployment in others.”
