This weekend the information that Microsoft plans to return the OneDrive placeholder files got leaked. According to Thurrott they will return with the next big update for Windows 10, the Redstone update.
On Windows 8.1 OneDrive users were able to use the very useful placeholder file feature. The feature allowed the user to keep a small thumbnail file of a document stored on OneDrive on their device. With a click on the file the full version of the document was downloaded. This made it very easy to organize OneDrive without having trouble with having not enough storage. Sadly the feature was removed from Windows 10.
I would be very happy if the placeholders would come back because I really loved using them in Windows 8.1. Without them I always have the problem that I don’t have enough storage on my Surface. Furthermore I know many other with the same problem.
