Microsoft today has announced that the Azure service will be delivered from two new regions in Canberra, Australia. Microsoft is working with Canberra Data Centres (CDC) in these regions. They will be the first cloud provider in Australia to deliver cloud services to handle unclassified and protected government data. The new data center regions in Canberra will be specialized for government customers and their suppliers.
The two regions will be generally available in the first half of next year. With now 42 Azure regions worldwide, Microsoft has more than any other major cloud provider. Currently, Microsoft is offering cloud services in Australia from Sydney and Melbourne.
