In August, Microsoft and Amazon announced the partnership of their two digital assistants. The partnership will allow people to summon Cortana using Alexa and vice versa. At the time of the announcement, it was said that the integration of Cortana and Alexa would be coming later that year.
Nevertheless, 2018 has started and we have not heard anything about the deadline anymore. Now, Brad Sams from Thurrott.com has reached out to Amazon and Microsoft to ask about the current situation. Both companies shared similar responses. Microsoft said “We will have more to share soon” and Amazon told Brad Sams “We are working on it and expect to begin rolling it out soon”.
Personally, I really expect a lot from the integration of these two digital assistants. Together, the two will offer many possibilities with Cortana being used on many Windows 10 devices and Alexa being a part of many living rooms. When both work together it will be easier to just have “one” assistant in the house instead of using two services that are not working together.
While “soon” is not a really specific time, I expect the two companies to share more information at CES next week.
